A Open Category
Low-risk flights where safety is ensured by following strict operational limitations (e.g., flying below 120m, keeping drones in visual line-of-sight, maintaining safe distances from people, etc.).
A1: “Fly Over People”
Designed for very lightweight drones (often under 250g) or those with a C0 or C1 class marking.You can fly over people (but not large gatherings/crowds).
A2: “Fly Close to People”
Requires an A2 Certificate of Competency (additional theory and possibly practical training).The drone is often heavier (up to 4kg with a C2 class marking), but you must keep safe horizontal distances from bystanders (e.g., typically 30m, which can be reduced to 5m in some cases with low-speed mode).
A3: “Fly Far From People”
For drones up to 25kg (often with C3 or C4 class marking) but you must stay at least 50m away from people and avoid built-up areas entirely.
